Olavsgaarden

Hello from suburban Oslo! It's early Saturday morning here, and we've been having a great time. The scenery is amazing: forests, farms, farmsteads, fjords, seacoasts. We've toured three fortresses from the 1600s and 1700s, we've seen rock carvings made by Vikings in the bronze age; we've seen Viking burial mounds and raised stone headstones set in circles from 500 BC to 800 AD, and we've seen Eric's relatives and the farms that Eric's grandfather Ole came from (see below for details) and that Ole's wife's family left a generation earlier at Minge, and we've eaten with and visited with about 9 direct second cousins and their families.

Today we're going down to Oslo harbor to take a tour of fjord and then going over to the Viking musuem, and then tomorrow we'll go back down towards Frederikstad to visit with of Jim's relatives and perhaps swim in Oslo fjord. Bye for now
