Back at the ranch
Well, it's not a ranch at all, of course, our yard is more like a suburban oasis or something. We used to have a name for our houses -- the first house we owned we called Mugwump Manor. The second we named Giggleswick. We haven't named this place yet, and we've lived here for four years now. I guess we need name.
Anyway. K and I made the 1300+ mile roundtrip to Kansas City over the weekend, leaving late morning on Friday for the 660 mile drive (that's a thousand kilometers for our European readers!) to our hotel in Independence, Missouri in about 11 hours. Nothing to report: the drive is long, mostly downhill from Colorado and primarily vastly empty of anything but farms.
Saturday we did the dog show thing and Westley did well -- you can see his report on his blog. Then we joined about a half-dozen spinones at a local dog park for a romp, then went out to dinner with fellow Friends of Spinones.
Sunday we lazed around the hotel til late morning, then went and did the dog show thing again, then hit the road about 3:30 p.m. for the 450 mile drive across Kansas, seeing all the empty vastness again, only this time looking into the eventually setting sun. We drove through a huge thunderstorm at dusk, and holed up in a hotel in Burlington, Colo. for the night, arising at 5 Monday morning for the final three hours 220 miles to Greeley and a full day of work.
I'm having troubles with my picture posting software, so no pics yet. Check back when I've had time to get it fixed.
