It's a Green Day

We took the kids and two of their friends to see Green Day at the Pepsi Center Monday night. It was their first "huge" rock show, and I think they had a good time hearing the music, watching the band, seeing the slam dancers creating black hole mosh pits in the general admission standing in front of the stage and watching the huge pyrotechnics from the relative safety of our seats (we could feel the heat up in the rafters where we were). Connor liked it a lot, I think, and Reade thought it too loud.

Green Day opened with three or four songs from the front end of American Idiot, played a half-dozen hits from their older albums, brought some kids on stage to play a song, covered "Shout" and "Stand by Me" and did a James Brown kind of number, then finished with a few more off American Idiot. The encore included Queen's We Are the Champions. And yes, it was LOUD. Goes to 11. In a sign of my middle age, I wore earplugs. Sigh.

The opening act was Jimmy Eat World and they played a half-dozen of their radio hits, although we missed the first half of their set standing in line outside trying to get through security.

Potato Day

Potato Day is tomorrow. We'll be making our annual pilgrimage downtown to Centennial Village for our free baked potato. And a look at history. If I can figure out the problem with the photo uploading software, I'll maybe post some. Or maybe some pics of KC.
